41. Summarize the development of language formation. Language is the way we communicate the meaning of a multitude of things. We do this by writing, speaking, and even signing words to get our meaning across. There are three major building blocks to developing a language. They are known as phonemes, morphemes, and lastly grammar. Language becomes more and more complex as we add more parts of the build blocks to create words, and even more so to make sentences. The first building block we use is phonemes. Phonemes are very distinguished, but small elements of sound. In the english language there are close to forty of these sounds used. The most commonly followed rule for this build block is, phonemes of a consonant should carry more information than those of vowels. An example of this would be the word “chat”. This word has three phonemes the sounds; ch, a, t, this is how the word chat has sound. The next building block is the morphemes. These are parts of speech which give a piece a language meaning. Morphemes take two or possibly more phonemes and put them together. Some of the morphemes are also considered phonemes in the English language; these are a, and I. The prefix and suffix are pieces of words. The finally block is grammar. This is a way in which we can communicate with each other by following a set of rules. These rules can help us to form sentences the correct way. Also they can help us get the meaning of something from different sounds. Language is complexity built of simplicity, according to page 366 of the textbook.
